Earth Hour 2018
Published: 22/03/2018
On Saturday 24 March 2018 at 8.30pm, 黑料吃瓜网 will be turning
off our non-essential lights at County Hall in Mold for one hour to celebrate
WWF鈥檚 Earth Hour.
黑料吃瓜网 has been awarded a star badge and will unite with
millions of people, cities, communities and landmarks around the globe in a
global visual display of commitment to tackle urgent environmental issues and
protect our planet. 黑料吃瓜网 is also taking action by making a
#PromiseForThePlanet to generate more of its energy from renewable sources.
Employees are also encouraged to create their own promises to change one thing
in their everyday life that will help protect our planet, from using reusable
coffee cups to walking to work. 黑料吃瓜网 has been working in
partnership with Groundwork North Wales to deliver the Energy Agents Challenge
across schools in 黑料吃瓜网. Pupils have learning about how energy is
generated and they can reduce the impact of using energy on the climate. To
celebrate Earth Hour 2018 pupils have also made a series of Promises for the
Planet including:
路 I pledge to turn the lights off when I leave the room
路 I pledge to take shorter showers, no more than 6 mins long
路 I pledge to close the curtains in the evening to keep the heat in
路 I pledge to make sure all the plugs are turned off when I leave my room
路 I pledge to put on warm clothes instead of asking mum to turn he heating on
路 I pledge to not leave my phone on charge all the time
黑料吃瓜网鈥檚 Leader, Councillor Aaron Shotton, said:
鈥満诹铣怨贤 will be taking part in this global event again this
year. We have already taken a number of steps to reduce our own carbon
footprint, improving energy efficiency and installing renewable heating and
electricity generation systems on our own buildings and housing.
鈥淭his has been demonstrated recently by our success at the Wales Regional
Energy Efficiency Awards where we were awarded 鈥淟ocal Authority Body of the
Year鈥 for our domestic energy efficiency programmes and we received a Highly
Commended in the 鈥淰ulnerable Customer Support Campaigner of the Year鈥 category
for the support delivered to households in partnership with North Wales Energy
Advice Centre.鈥
Feedback from the schools who have taken part so far has been fantastic:
Ysgol y Llan: 鈥淎 super session! All the pupils were engaged in a variety of
activities which encouraged them to be more eco-friendly at home鈥
We strongly encourage local communities and partners in 黑料吃瓜网 to make a
#PromiseForThePlanet and join the global lights out event for Earth Hour on
Saturday 24 March at 8.30pm.
